Does your toddler (or preschooler) love construction vehicles, vehicles of any kind, trucks, and anything like play dough, kinetic sand, or real sand?

We’ve had two of these by age 3.5 - not because they’re badly made by any means - but because they get heavy, heavy usage 🙃

Here are some ideas for playscapes with these little guys. Find my favorite wooden workhorse of a construction set here.

  1. Kinetic sand - this is a good-sized bag that we’ve bought once or twice; setting up the vehicles with some sand is an obvious choice; one that is sure to thrill your little one. To keep it novel, we like to switch out the mediums every now and then to keep attention fresh.

  2. Sand! If you’ve got the appropriate weather, we’ve let our little guy bring these out to the sandbox on our back deck, though they won’t remain pristine for an entire season with the corrosive element of beach sand… I recommend these green toys vehicles for a sand box experience!

  3. Play dough - we make our own, and use store bought; you can’t go wrong with a couple colors of dough and a few trucks. We got this set on sale awhile back and it was really fun for my transportation-obsessed kiddo.

  4. Random packing paper, filler, lentils, chick peas etc! Whole I haven’t really ventured into the bean category (I used freekeh once) - I think it would be extremely fun for small hands. We used some leftover packing supplies as auwon jn the photo and that was a (slightly chaotic) hit.

More later, thanks for checking out these sensory-related playscape activity ideas!
