Baking for toddlers - banana bread cars!

Here’s an idea for a silly baking-related activity: banana bread cars! One could do anything with this idea but vehicles were the obvious choice for my three year old.

I typically use Aunt Holly’s Banana Bread recipe

While following the basics, I often halve or skip the sugar, skip the chocolate, and sub half a cup of the AP flour for whole wheat - I have also added an entire shredded zucchini from time to time! I’ve also used some or exclusively almond flour - in any case, it’s truly always delicious.

I found these little silicone molds as I was looking at making some homemade crayons - and thought it would be amusing to use for snacks as well. They come in a pack of three! Under-fill slightly with batter as they’ll rise - I sprayed mine with a little coconut oil baking spray before baking for ~8-10 minutes.

Other ideas For these little molds :

  • make crayons in the oven

  • Use with play dough

  • frozen yoghurt cars

  • Ice cars - and then let them paint them! (Trying this today)

  • Feel free to drop ideas in the comments!
