Perfect gift ideas for a one year old

When a little one reaches the end of the first year it’s such a huge milestone for the baby, and also for the whole family! Such a special time, and it’s always wonderful to mark the event with a couple of special gifts. The ideas below are tried and tested by my own!

An adorable little music & dancing toy
Our 11 month old absolutely adores this gift she got for Christmas this year - a music box that she can touch and play with! When you turn the music on, the little figures dance around on the top but they’re removable and safe for a baby’s hands and mouth. It’s incredible cute; ours has a Brahms lullaby tune. Lovely for a one year old!
2. A gorgeous felted play mat to bring stories to life

3. A Hape explorers cube
We’ve had this for about three months but this would be perfect for a one year olds birthday as well. It even captivated my three year old from time to time, so it had potential to last! Really like the quality of this one, it comes almost fully built (just flip the top piece to face upwards and screw closed with enclosed tool) - and it’s cute and light weight.
4. This Haba raven puppet which can eat things
This little puppet delighted our almost-one year old as a holiday gift and would surely please at a first birthday! Definitely recommended, as it can ‘eat’ the cherries included or really, any small item - there’s also a dragon and a crocodile version. So cute. Get it here
5. This sweet farm-life book for small hands
An adorable little board book my mom recently gifted my 11 month old - would make a sweet first birthday present for any baby. A cute look at farm life and a story about a chicken looking for somewhere to lay her eggs.
6. The very best Wheels on the Bus version there is
This classic hardcover book with moveable parts is my 13 month old’s favorite right now - I’d advise reading with a bit of distance so the parts aren’t pulled off the page (even so you’ll likely have to buy a second copy eventually as it’s hard to keep them pristine). You can’t go wrong with this!
a micro scooter with the baby seat!
This is a massive hit for out baby; she became obsessed with it around 13 months and was able to sit in it and push with her feet! We had no idea she’d be able to use it at that age. She yells ‘gooter’ until we get it for her and go for a ride.
