Waldorf inspired holiday gift ideas for toddlers and small children

It’s nearing mid November, so of course I’m continuing to plan presents for the holidays. In addition to a large Danish and American styles Christmas, we celebrate the month of advent as well!

Advent garden

Around the end of November, we’ll transform our little nature table play scape into an advent garden. This year I may ask my mom to ship me a little bit of moss from the New England forests as it’s so plentiful there! With some moss and stones, in addition to the veils and other natural features, hopefully it will be very sweet (photo will follow!). I have fond memories of creating the advent garden as well as playing with it. Here it is as it stands right now, waiting to be transformed!

Each evening before bed we’ll sing a special song (again, thanks to my mom for these sweet traditions) and then the next morning - the children wake up and run down to see what the gnomes left them, nestled among the moss! We aim to start simple with crystals, stones etc and move on to slightly more special or elaborate little gifts on Sundays, etc. little “gnome presents” are things I start collecting even in summer time to have on hand for advent.

White play dough to make snowmen with sticks and other things found outside! We made a snowman the other day and the kids had a blast.
